This project was created as a video art installation for the Fine Art graduating degree show part of the TAMK Fine Art studies. The video work was initially designed as a continuous loop. The artwork explores the relationship between my shifting reflection and the motion of the water.
My reflection is occasionally obscured and disrupted by my hands reaching into the water to grasp a floating red thread. The term “Reverie” refers to being lost in one’s thoughts or daydreaming.
The slow pace and manipulation of time in the piece emphasize the interaction between elements striving for unity or balance. Even in slow motion, nothing is ever fully still; everything vibrates. When we look at things from a more calm and grounded place, the insights we get might be more beneficial and true to ourselves, even shifting our perception to be different than initially thought.
Living in a fast-paced, ever-evolving world challenges this concept, as our attention spans have decreased to around 8 seconds and we increasingly expect instant gratification.
