Tianjun Li (Timjune)
(b. 1999)
China

Also known as Timjune, Tianjun Li is a Helsinki-based interdisciplinary visual artist and musician specializing in photography, voice, and performance. Timjune’s work reimagines the narratives of the human-nature relationship within contemporary contexts—from belonging, immigration to deforestation. Born with synesthesia, he perceives images through sound.

His voice, spanning more than four octaves, evokes natural movements and social landscapes, transcending both gender and the divide between humans and nature. By reconstructing images, sounds, and conducting vocal experiments, he transforms photographic art into multi-sensory installations and performances.

His work creates surreal, fablelike utopias rooted in harsh realities, highlighting the parallel trajectories between individuals, communities, and the ever-changing natural environment in the Anthropocene era.

Today, Tomorrow, and the Tales from the Wind
Duration: 4:55
2023

This is an ongoing photography and voice project since 2023, to tell the stories of truth and illusion through images, voice, and sound.Being born with synethesia, I see images through sounds, and I interpret the image by my vocal experiments beyond 4 octaves. T

he project is a nomadic narrative of my experience as a young immigrant who moved alone to the Nordics, combining photography, sound, and vocal experiential performances, and presents an imaginative narrative exploring a fable-like parallel between humans and nature, reflecting on the relationship between myself, the sense of homeland, and the changing natural and political environments through field trips in various Nordic countries.

By reconstructing photos and sounds from the Nordic regions and China, along with sound and vocal experiments, photography is expanded as a synesthetic, performative medium.
