Elina Zazulia (based in Colombia) is an interdisciplinary artist, working with digital technologies, space, and movement. She graduated from the Saint Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design in Russia, specializing in Architectural Environment Design. Elina has also worked as a designer and VJ, creating installations and visual effects in real time for electronic music events.

Currently engaged in both independent individual projects and collaborations, she explores the extensive artistic potentials of media. Within her practice, Elina navigates two distinct but interconnected directions. Firstly, she dives into the realm of audiovisual monumental abstractions, aiming to elicit not just visual or auditory responses but also tactile sensations and profound kinesthetic experiences in her audience. In her second area of focus, Elina embarks on interdisciplinary research, delving into posthuman identity and examining humanity's relationship with the environment.

Her works have been featured in international media art festivals, including the "From Micro to Macro and Back" exhibition (MMMAD Festival and SMTH.ART, Spain), "Geo-poiesis" (XXIII Festival Internacional de la Imagen, Colombia), the International Festival of Media Art "INTERVALS" (Nizhny Novgorod, Russia), the biennial "Art for the Future" (Multimedia Art Museum, Moscow, Russia), among others.

On Being Something
Duration: 3:00
2024

How would one describe the moment of emergence? How can this be felt? A moment of absolute flexibility and at the same time a pronounced form in its formlessness? A comprehensive state in which both organic and inorganic components are intertwined?

Visual images are shaped by neural networks, with a deliberate selection of the most peculiar dynamic forms, chosen for their unconventional movement patterns. It is through these experiments with artificial intelligence that an ephemeral, unclassified substance emerges, expressing naturalness through synthetic means — a fluid, tangible identity that absorbs and embodies various entities.
